Recognized the Potential of a Mentorship Program
Through Veris Insights’ research, Dell’s Emerging Talent team realized that assigning mentors was simultaneously the highest-impact action an employer could take after a student accepted a job and the least common thing that students were experiencing from employers. There was significant potential here.
Q: How much would the following actions impact your perceptions of a future employer after you’ve accepted a job, but before your first day?
***Being assigned a mentor that currently works at the company***
0%
of students said they have actually been assigned a mentor by a company they had accepted an offer from.
There was a report where students were being asked what they like to get from a company in terms of engagement and students said that they wanted mentorship the most but they also said they weren’t getting mentorship at all. So we said, let’s draw that line… connect those dots.
Launched Excel with Dell Mentorship Program
Dell launched the first iteration of the program in 2021. Since then, they’ve seen tremendous success. Not only has it grown by more than 6x – 13 students completed the program in 2021 and 80 completed the program in 2022 – but they have also incorporated professional development components like networking and mock interviews. The team at Dell looks forward to scaling the program in the years ahead!

This spring, we’ve got almost 100 Dell employees and mentees matched! Using that Veris Insights data to turn this program into a reality was a no-brainer.
