Inside Look: Day in the Life of a Consulting Associate

This month, we’re shining a spotlight on our latest opening: the Sr. Consulting Associate role within our Member Experience team. Our Member Experience team plays a pivotal role within our firm, serving as the backbone of our client interactions and relationship-building efforts.

As the primary points of contact for Veris Insights members (our clients), Consulting Associates serve as trusted advisors and consultants, driving client success and contributing significantly to our firm’s mission of delivering exceptional service and value.

To provide deeper insights into this central role and offer a glimpse into “a day in the life,” we’ve turned to some of our Member Experience team to answer some commonly asked questions:

Jordan Blair-Paladino, Sr. Manager, Member Experience:

Can you share a memorable moment or project you’ve worked on recently?

“I recently had the opportunity to present key findings on the student candidate experience to a team of talent acquisition leaders at a premier consulting organization. Being able to elevate the authentic student voice to this team was so impactful and created a shared understanding of the current university recruiting landscape among this member organization’s talent leadership.”

What do you enjoy most about working in this role?

“I absolutely LOVE working with our members. The folks we interface with every single day are recruiters by trade, which means they are the kindest, funniest, and most down-to-earth people around! Coming from a recruiting background myself, it has been a breath of fresh air to work hand-in-hand with people who love people.”

Mehak Advani, Manager, Member Experience:

What does a typical day look like in this role?

“A day at Veris Insights involves several member meetings focused on high-impact projects and core UR work. In between and after the meetings, I will block focus time to work on member tasks and internal passion projects. For me, this includes working on helping build our CRM platform and conducting data analyses. Additionally, some of my days will include zoom coffee chats. These chats serve as a way to stay connected with the broader team, despite being in a remote work environment. It’s our time to catch up, share ideas, and stay connected with each other’s lives outside of work. Overall, a day at Veris Insights is filled with meaningful work, collaboration, and opportunities for personal and professional growth. It’s a place where employees are empowered to make an impact and work on projects they are passionate about.”

Can you share a memorable moment or project you’ve worked on recently?

“With the pandemic and travel restrictions (kind of) lifting, I had the opportunity to conduct my first in-person member presentation in Texas, which was also my first time visiting the state. This experience was particularly significant as I supported, facilitated, and presented to our member’s and their subsidiaries’ UR teams. During the presentation, I focused on vision building, mapping candidate journey processes, and presenting on student needs and preferences to help curate their strategy. The session left a lasting impact, and I received a kind thank-you note from one of the team members, which made the experience even more special. The connections I formed and the value I delivered during this event are something I will always cherish.”

Jacynta Smith, Manager, Member Experience:

What is the most challenging part about your role?

“The most challenging part of my role is setting boundaries. I tend to get very invested in supporting our members and internal teams, and I love doing it, I can get pretty taken away. However, I have been able to set boundaries by pre-planning my monthly mental health days to remind myself to take a step back. My manager is also very invested in my weekly calibration to ensure I am not overpromising myself.”

What do you enjoy most about working in this role?

“I love to meet new people and learn new things! I am excited to come to work everyday because we are constantly trying new things and innovating. In tandem with supporting our members I am consistently challenging myself to try new things and develop as a professional. I appreciate the opportunity and flexibility to try new things alongside my peers.”

Sarah Katz, Sr. Manager, Member Experience:

What opportunities for growth or learning have you encountered in this role?

“The level of autonomy I have provides significant opportunity to innovate and collaborate with my members. I feel empowered to tailor my service to my members needs, this can look like designing and leading new trainings, supporting in the building of executive presentations or thought partnering on processes which vary from firm to firm.”

Can you share a piece of advice for someone considering applying for this position?

“I think what has made myself and my peers successful in this role is a drive to deliver exceptional service and the relentless pursuit of answers. We are energized by the relationships and the puzzles, if you are looking for a job that looks the same day to day this isn’t it. I think being really clear on what motivates you is important for any applicant. Do you love problem solving? Are you excited about relationship development? Where do you get energy from and what drains you?”
